A Drefach-felindre Action Group has called on planning chiefs to turn down an application for three new turbines at Blaen Bowi windfarm.

Jacky Bonnemains, president of Robin des Bois (Robin Hood), a militant French ecological group, said: "I find it extraordinary no one in government grasps that this will change forever the character of a place of sacred memory. They just don't seem to care." In future, the seascape would be "desecrated" by rows of wind generators, he added.

Planning authorities should treat occupants of single dwellings close to a proposed wind farm site the same way as nearby settlements. The clarification from the Scottish Government on the guidelines to assess applications has been seized on by campaigners seeking to spike the current run of turbine developments in the Highlands.

Houses very close to wind farms drop in value because they are more difficult to sell and a significant rebate would be some compensation. Whether £400 and a reduction in fuel bills will be regarded as adequate remains to be seen and householders who complain that noise from turbines affects their wellbeing are unlikely to regard any payment as sufficient compensation.

But in Britain, a crowded and windy island with high rates of home ownership and an appealingly romantic view of its landscape, the conflict is exceptionally rancorous. It has also, unusually, become a national issue.

Dick Bowdler, a member of the IOU who is not involved in the study, said noise level limits and health effects should have been taken into account as part of the new guidance. The acoustics consultant pointed out that this is not only essential for planning a wind farm, but for compensation if it is built.

The lives of young pilots based in Shropshire could be put at risk if controversial plans to build a wind farm get the go ahead, north Shropshire's MP has warned. Owen Paterson MP has written to defence secretary Des Browne calling on him to support objections to the proposed wind farm at Norton-in-Hales, near Market Drayton. In his letter, Mr Paterson expresses concern that the lives of young pilots based at RAF Shawbury could be put at risk by "unnecessary extra dangers" on what is already a demanding course.

"I was asked to sign a form which said I wouldn't complain about noise, future disturbance and various other things. "It was put to me as a goodwill gesture but it seemed to be no more than a bribe."

The Scottish Government has ruled out a change in law which would have protected some of the country's most picturesque areas from a "barrage" of wind farm applications. Politicians including Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Murdo Fraser had demanded the introduction of a law which would have created "no go" areas for wind farm developments. He insists the legislation would have protected some of Scotland's most beautiful areas, including huge swathes of rural Perthshire in his constituency. ..."We certainly need to have better and stronger guidelines or the current barrage of wind farm applications in areas such Perthshire will continue.

Jane Davis and her husband Julian from Deeping, St Nicholas live less than 1,000 metres from a huge wind farm that was built three years ago. The couple say the noise from the eight 330 ft (100m) turbines keeps them awake at night and has forced them to move into rented accommodation. In an effort to have the turbines switched off at night or even taken down altogether the couple are planning to take the developers, landowners and operators to the High Court.

A newly constructed wind turbine farm is being blamed for the loss of television reception in a rural area. Locals in the Ballycummane and Tournafulla areas of west Limerick claim the wind farm has been placed directly in line with the Maghera transmitter in Clare from where they receive their television reception. Following an initial investigation, RTE said developers behind wind farms must be held accountable for any loss of television or radio signal.

Campaigners hoping to quash controversial plans for the region's first wind farm to be created between Burntwood and Heath Hayes have joined forces. Local Plaid Cymru AM for Aberconwy, Gareth Jones, has described the decision by the Westminster Labour Government to approve the construction of the huge Gwynt y Mor windfarm, off the coast of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay, as a slap in the face and an affront to the democratically-expressed wishes of the people of Wales. ..."The scale of the Gwynt y Mor development cannot be overstated. The 250 turbines will be visible for many miles around.

Consent for a small wind farm development in Norfolk has been quashed by the High Court and sent back to Communities Secretary Ruth Kelly for reconsideration after a judge agreed that a planning condition about noise was “unenforceable and imprecise”. The two-turbine Ecotricity scheme at the village of Shipdham was granted permission on appeal last summer after being turned down by Breckland District Council. Two villagers who live next to the proposed wind farm site took legal action to challenge that permission. After a brief hearing, the judge, Mr Justice Lloyd Jones, approved an order - agreed between the Secretary of State, the developer and the local planning authority - quashing the permission. Now a planning inspector must decide whether to hold a third inquiry into the project, accept a redrafted noise condition or reject the proposal.

Infrastructure minister David Cretney has written to developers of a planned wind farm in the Irish Sea, outlining the Manx government's concerns about the impact it could have on the Island's economy.

With 130 turbines of over 30m either consented or proposed in east Berwickshire, wind farm applications are starting to creep downhill and along a corridor in eastern Berwickshire parallel with the A1, down to Lamberton Moor. The visual, landscape, cumulative and noise impacts are likely to be far greater as the land is flatter and there are more settlements in the Merse valley.
