"There are only 50-some bald eagle nests in Ontario," he said. "This is one."
"There's no end to the limits that the government will go to accommodate the wind industry," he added.
He also cautioned that the issue is much more far-reaching than Haldimand County.

Wind turbine company Nextera & MNR destroy Bald Eagle Nest & habitat
January 4, 2013 in Ontario Wind Resistance
January 4, 2013 in Ontario Wind Resistance
Yesterday at 5:00pm the MNR gave a permit to this corporation to destroy this eagle pairs nest, and cut down the tree- as long as they were able to do it by January 6th - tomorrow. In typical cold government language, it is justified that the tree and nest should be removed as it was "scheduled to be removed for the construction of a road, and within 20 metres of the blade sweep of a proposed turbine".

Investigations suggest that both birds were fatally injured as a result of mid-air collisions with the turbine blades.
A spokesman for the organisation said the deaths were "tragic" and would have an impact on the local breeding success of an already vulnerable species which is
"teetering on the brink of extinction".
"This is a tragic situation and is likely to have had an impact on the local breeding success of this vulnerable species. Sustained persecution has placed the hen harrier under significant pressure, with the raptor teetering on the brink of extinction in England.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Friday it is considering formally listing the lesser prairie chicken as a threatened species.
The announcement begins a yearlong review ...Fish and Wildlife said it made the decision based on evidence the bird and its habitat are in decline.
The study found that on the whole gannets flew in the same direction and for the same distance but they vary significantly in the amount of time they spend searching for food which suggests that individual gannets do not depend on specific feeding sites.

Last Tuesday morning, wind farms plugged into the Bonneville Power Administration's transmission network hit a new generation record of 4,289 megawatts. In fact, earlier the same morning, wind farms exceeded the output of the federal hydroelectric system... there was no brouhaha over excess energy supply as there was last spring. Everyone went about their business and got paid.
Wind turbine site ruffles area avian enthusiasts; Dangers to migratory birds are cited

A "preponderance of evidence" shows the proposed Camp Perry site is the wrong place to put a wind turbine. Ms. Kaufman has been working to gather opposition from other groups and plans to send a letter today protesting the project to the 200th Red Horse squadron of the Ohio Air National Guard.
"It's just astounding that they are still considering it."
Commissioner Gord Miller's recent annual report says Ontario needs to be "smarter about where we place wind power facilities," adding there are shortcomings in the guidelines for evaluating and reducing turbines' harmful effects on birds, bats and their habitats.
The trailer struck the guardrail, damaging about 100 feet of railing before hitting the bridge and going over the embankment into the river, Duncan said.
A small fire started in the grass, but firefighters put it out.
This month marks the 12th anniversary of designation of the remote Steens Mountain country of southeast Oregon as a protected area, some of it as federal wilderness. But conservation groups are in court, trying to keep wind turbines and transmission lines off the mountain.
Gord Miller’s report said no new wind farms should be constructed in the province’s 70 designated Important Bird Areas (IBA). One of those IBAs is located on the south shore of the County.
Miller said there are two areas in which the government needs to improve guidelines to enhance protection for both birds and bats.
No one has ever before sued the US president over this type of ruling, but Ralls argues that Mr Obama exceeded his powers ...
On Friday afternoon, Obama issued an order compelling the company to sell within 90 days four wind farm sites in Oregon, and to clear all its equipment and structures off the sites within 14 days.

The wind farm sites are all in or near restricted airspace at the Naval Weapons Systems Training Facility in Boardman, Ore. ...The interagency Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States initially recommended against allowing the transaction in July. But only the president can halt an acquisition.
Barack Obama said he had decided that Ralls, the company behind the project, "might take action that threatens to impair the national security of the United States," and ordered it to sell its four sites and remove its equipment.
Obama ordered Ralls Corp., a company owned by Chinese nationals, to divest its interest in development rights for the small wind farms -- with just five turbines each --near the Naval Weapons Systems Training Facility. ...Ralls said it would lose the chance for $25 million in federal renewable energy investment tax incentives if the farms weren't running by Dec. 31.

After conducting an investigation, CFIUS issued an order on July 25 citing "national security risks" raised by the sale of the assets to Ralls and directing the company to stop all construction and operations at the wind-farm locations, according to the filing. ...If the wind farms aren't in service by Dec. 31, then the company won't be able to obtain $25 million in federal investment tax incentives, according to the court filing.
Turbine related bird deaths concern local birders

Bird deaths by the town's wind turbines are causing concern among local birders even though some favor alternative energy.
Photos of dead birds were taken by Windwise, which opposes the turbines, and e-mailed to the Advocate. On Tuesday, Windwise member Ken Pottel said someone from the state environmental police is looking into it.
Bald Eagle Days has typically drawn a couple hundred people, but Ingram says it's unclear what effect the long hiatus and heightened local interest will have on those numbers.
Minnesota produces the fifth-most wind energy in the country, but it's also in the top three for nesting bald eagles in the lower 48 states.
Gas prices, the report worries, "may not ultimately rebound to earlier levels as the economy recovers, due to the ongoing development of significant shale gas deposits." The widely held belief that gas will remain cheap for quite some time "puts the near-term comparative economic position of wind energy at some risk, absent further reductions in the price of wind power (and absent supportive policies for wind energy)."
