"I am very concerned we have a long term energy strategy but like all of us in New Hampshire, I also love the outdoors that is so important to the quality of life. I think the first proposal didn't take that into consideration and could have harmed our travel and tourism economy."

June 7, 2010 by Katherine Tweed in GreenTech Grid
Hawaii is looking to deliver nearly 400 megawatts of energy from wind farms on sparsely populated Molokai and Lanai to the most populous island, Oahu, via an undersea transmission cable. ...It involves building two large wind farms across more than 12,000 acres and then laying down the cable to deliver the energy. One cannot happen without the other, yet it is far from a sure bet.

The town of Henderson is asking a judge to annul the town of Hounsfield Planning Board's site plan approval for the proposed Galloo Island Wind Farm.
The Henderson Town Council filed a state Supreme Court Article 78 proceeding Friday at the Jefferson County clerk's office against Hounsfield, the project's developer, Upstate NY Power Corp., Seneca, and the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
A power giant is hoping to bring more high-voltage transmission lines to Madison, promising to deliver clean and green energy from the west.
But critics are questioning the logic of building a 150-mile power line for electricity that could be generated closer to home.

A controversial power line proposed to cross the Hill Country to transmit wind power from West Texas may not have to get built after all, according to a letter Tuesday from the agency operating the state's electricity grid.
The line, which would run from the Fredericksburg area to Lampasas County, has faced opposition from Hill Country property owners who worried that the lines would ruin views and fragment animal habitat.

Earlier, Sen. Troy Fraser had asked that the need for a new line between Gillespie and Lampasas counties be re-evaluated, and ERCOT's analysis reported that upgrading existing lines could be done instead.
ERCOT's about-face on that segment prompted calls to scrap the entire case before the PUC.

The Tennesseee Valley Authority favors a Houston company's effort to build an electrical connection between windmills in Oklahoma and Texas and power users in the Tennessee Valley.
The proposed $3.5 billion project would use direct current rather than the alternating current.
Many aspects of the sale of NB Power have both angered and confused people, but none it seems more so than the issue of access to the grid post-sale.
The New Brunswick government says nothing will change, while the premiers of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland have said the sale will effectively block their access to New England and others have expressed concerns it will end the province's forays into green energy.

Hydro Quebec, NStar and Northeast Utilities are working on the Northern Pass project with the Patrick administration's support. Project organizers say the new line could provide another 1,200 megawatts of hydro electricity, enough to power nearly a million houses.
The project is still in early engineering and study phases, with the goal of wrapping up in 2015, the Northern Pass website says.
