Controversial plans for four giant wind turbines in the midst of two scenic Norfolk coastal communities have been rejected by a government planning inspector. ...In a six page report the planning inspector says the turbines would "unacceptably change" and result in "material harm" to the landscape.

Concerns raised at a recent Iroquois County Board meeting prompted the board to vote unanimously to implement a moratorium on wind-farm construction for the next six months - a measure designed to allow the board to do research and possibly amend the county's ordinance governing wind farms before more come to the county.

One man's wind turbine may once again dot the skyline in Fremont Township after the Winona County Planning Commission approved his permit request.
James Jarvis was forced to take down his turbine in May after the county board of adjustment did not grant a variance for the wind system. But he has worked with county officials since then to develop a plan to get the turbine back in the air.

The Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates this week rejected proposed review standards for land-based wind turbines, and is considering an unprecedented step to protect Cape Cod while those regulations undergo further review.
The ordinance would have amended the energy section of the county’s Regional Policy Plan (RPP) and established minimum performance standards.

The planning and zoning commission created a "turbine zone" in the southern part of the county where wind farms will be allowed.

About 200 people packed a meeting room at the Whitley County Government Center in downtown Columbia City.
However, the room was so full, some attendees had to watch and strain their ears to hear from the hallway. Most of the residents at the meeting were against the proposal.

Officials from the Bayshore Regional Sewerage Authority (BRSA) submitted an application to the Union Beach Planning Board seeking a variance to consolidate two lots owned by Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) that abut the sewerage plant's property in the borough to provide clearance for the turbine, which is expected to be completed by January.

The law was tabled at an Oct. 26 meeting because some wording contradicted other elements of the statute. Those contradictions have been fixed since that meeting.
Ms. Parker-Lane said eventually the town would like to allow private wind towers, but until the board is able to work out those details, the ban will remain in effect.

Change delays windmill rules in Mahoning Township

The board added a provision to the windmill ordinance stating personal property windmills cannot cause loss of a signal, such as from a satellite or dish TV or a cell phone, to a neighboring property.
As a result of the change, the supervisors will have to re-advertise the ordinance to be adopted at its Dec. 20 meeting.
