Rumours that giant wind turbines at Camber are sinking into the marsh have been scotched.
Neale East, of the Wind Farm Liaison Group, said: "No they are not sinking. There is no truth in this whatsoever.
"All 26 turbines are now up and the next construction work to take place will be putting up three metereological masts.
State hearing on wind turbines set for today at Capitol; Focus is industry regulations, practices

Wind turbines will whirl through the State Capitol and stir up a storm on the Senate's agenda today as the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce plans to discuss current industry regulations and practices associated with the turbines.
The committee will hear testimony from the Public Utility Commission of Texas on the siting process for wind turbines, wind generation industry representatives on the impact of industry regulation and local land owners on the private property rights. Members of the public also can participate in the discussions.
A newly constructed wind turbine farm is being blamed for the loss of television reception in a rural area.
Locals in the Ballycummane and Tournafulla areas of west Limerick claim the wind farm has been placed directly in line with the Maghera transmitter in Clare from where they receive their television reception.
Following an initial investigation, RTE said developers behind wind farms must be held accountable for any loss of television or radio signal.

Wiscasset is being considered for the largest energy development proposal - and potentially the largest development project of any kind - in the history of the state.
A Toronto entrepreneur who has developed Canadian wind farms has floated the idea of building a massive $2 billion underground hydropower station at the old Maine Yankee nuclear power station site.
The project would be one of the first of its kind anywhere.
The proposal raises questions about impacts on the Back River and groundwater, and it would use as much energy as it creates.
Nearly a decade after the Navy retired and dismantled 19 communications towers along the Severn River, a fledgling energy company is planning to build wind turbines that would turn the near-constant breeze there into electricity. ...The county must decide whether wind turbines would affect the communications towers. Of the turbine proposal, Schram said, "We'll see how it goes along from this early stage."
In the three-way horse race to erect a wind turbine farm in the Conneaut area, BQ Energy may be leading at the turn.
City Council members who attended a Thursday afternoon presentation by the wind energy company were blown away by what they heard. There's a good chance the firm will be invited to prepare a formal proposal, Council President James Jones said Friday.
"We may be talking to them about a proposal," he said.
The Farmersville Town Board will meet in a special session at 7 p. m. Monday to discuss the possibility of placing a moratorium on permits for wind-energy generating facilities.
Officials also canceled a public hearing Wednesday on a proposal to increase wind project application fees and amended the town's law regulating wind farms.
The board met in a closed-door session Sept. 24 with the town's wind-energy consultant, Donald Swanz, and a representative of Noble Environmental Power, which has met with the board several times to discuss a possible wind farm to connect with a proposed project, Noble Freedom Windpark in the neighboring Town of Freedom.
If wind power works for St. Peter schools, Gustavus Adolphus College and the city of Mountain Lake, can it work for the city of Mankato? ...[Mankato Councilman Mark Frost] cautions that profitability is a must: "This isn't one of those, ‘Boy, we're gonna do it no matter what' programs," he said. "I'm just askin' questions."
But the success - though it has been decidedly mixed - of other public entities has piqued his interest.
During the past few months, he's learned wind energy is more like a puzzle than a straightforward path.
Permission to build four more turbines - a mere four of at least 38 extra Motorimu wanted - has been hailed as a victory by opponents of the wind farm and they say there are ramifications for other planned farms like Turitea. ..."There were huge resources against us," Millricks Line resident Alison Mildon said, but the fight had to be fought. "There are adverse effects, it is not a benign industry," she said.

A group of Fort Kent residents is proposing a moratorium on industrial wind turbines within town limits until local officials can develop ordinances governing the enormous structures.
The group has gathered roughly 220 signatures on a petition seeking a 180-day moratorium on construction of commercial wind power facilities as well as processing of any applications. The petition would allow the Town Council to extend the moratorium or cancel it once Fort Kent's zoning and land-use ordinances have been amended to address wind power facilities.
A South Coast Wind Power Collaborative meeting held in Marion this week brought everything from frustration to hope as several initiatives were discussed.
Reports on Sodar wind speed testing done at Old Rochester Regional High School and Mattapoisett's landfill brought mixed results. Wind speeds at both locations did not prove sufficient to suggest a feasibility study, but they did bring a suggestion of further study from Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) representative Nils Bolgen.

Deepwater utility group wins New Jersey offshore wind bid

New Jersey is one step closer to bringing an offshore wind farm to the coasts of the U.S. Garden State Offshore Energy (GSOE), a joint venture between utility Public Service Enterprise Group (PSEG) Renewable Generation and Deepwater Wind, was selected by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities today to build an offshore wind farm far off the Jersey coastline. The proposed 350-megawatt wind farm would consist of 96 turbines nearly 20 miles offshore. GSOE will receive a $4 million state grant to help cover permitting costs and spur project financing though the final project, to be completed by 2012, will likely cost well over $1 billion, according to the state.
Representatives for the company looking to build 33 wind turbines on ridgelines in the unincorporated areas of Dixville and Millsfield fielded some tough questions from the more than 120 people who attended a public hearing in Groveton last night. ...Nine parties have applied to intervene in the case, meaning they would become parties to the proceedings and could file briefs, collect discovery and question the applicant. They include wind and anti-wind energy groups, the Appalachian Mountain Club and five individuals.

City Council will have further conversations with a New York-based developer interested in erecting wind turbines in the Conneaut area, members agreed Thursday afternoon.
No proposals were broached during the hour-long meeting with BQ Energy, but council - impressed with the presentation - seemed open to more dialogue. ...BQ is the third and most recent developer to contact the city about creating a wind farm in the surrounding area. Thursday's meeting served as an informal introduction.

As First Wind of Massachusetts finishes building a wind farm on Stetson Mountain and prepares applications for another on Rollins Mountain, New York State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo continues probing allegations that the company dealt improperly with public officials in upstate New York.
Begun in July, Cuomo's investigation probes whether First Wind and another company based in Connecticut improperly sought or obtained land-use agreements with residents and public officials; whether public officials received improper benefits to influence their actions; and whether they entered into anti-competitive agreements or practices.

Shell Oil and Cinco Energy Land Services are looking to build commercial wind farms on both state and private land in Rensselaerville and New Scotland.
Representatives have been approaching residents about leasing their properties. Shell has been tight-lipped about the project's details, and neither town has zoning regulating the building of windmills.
Part of this project involves building on the Partridge Run State Wildlife Management Area in the Helderbergs.

GE warns of turbulence ahead for turbine production

US engineering giant General Electric (GE) yesterday warned that rising steel prices and turmoil on the financial markets will have a negative impact on its fast expanding wind turbine business.
Speaking at an event in Germany to publicise its latest turbine, GE Energy's global sales leader for wind energy, Mete Maltepe, said that the rising cost of steel would drive up the price of turbines.
A rural Thorntown couple is concerned a wind turbine farm would harm county residents. ...In researching the downside of commercial wind farms, Fyffe has found some neighbors of the gigantic electrical generators complaining of "vibro-acoustic disease" (VAD) and "wind turbine syndrome."
Scientists are researching both VAD and WTS. VAD has been cited in more than 37 peer-reviewed articles in science journals. At dispute is not whether wind towers produce low frequency noise (LFN) that affects health -- it is the susceptibility of persons living near wind farms, according to articles in science journals.
