CHILTON — Dozens of Calumet County residents testified to their fears over the effects almost 100 huge wind turbines will have on their health, safety and wallets at a county hearing Thursday.
Those worries include epileptic seizures, sleep deprivation, diminished property values and the impact 400-foot windmills will have on aircraft navigation, especially flight-for-life helicopters. About 120 people attended the hearing.

The Ridgeville recall effort began in May after some residents complained the current board was not representing them. They held a meeting at the town hall and selected Luethe, Krueger and Giraud as their candidates.
The effort stems from controversy in the area over plans for an industrial “wind farm” that would place 35-story-high wind turbines along the ridge.

Doyle plan to call for higher use of renewable energy

State Rep. Phil Montgomery (R-Ashwaubenon), chairman of the Assembly Energy and Utilities Committee, said Thursday that he isn't opposed to expansion of renewable power but called on Doyle to include nuclear power in the state's energy mix.
He said a target of 25% for the state's power could be difficult to attain and could be costly to electric ratepayers if they are mandated.
Despite advances in renewable technology, wind turbines don't rotate when the wind doesn't blow, and solar panels aren't effective when the sun's not shining, Montgomery said.

Wisconsin's investor-owned utilities are charting very different growth paths than they did just a few years ago.
