EASTHAM - A big turnout is expected at 2 p.m. Friday when the Energy Committee meets in town hall with neighbors and abutters to the town property being considered for the placement of up to four wind turbines.
The turbines would be erected on two parcels of land off Nauset Road at Railroad Avenue, bordered on the west by the electric utility lines and the Cape Cod Rail Trail, on the north by Wellfleet; and on the east by Oak Leaf Road, Kaits Way, Cross Cart Way, and Cape Cod National Seashore. The site is near a cell tower, the former Tilcon plant and gravel pits.
Town Administrator Sheila Vanderhoef said, “We’ve received a lot of e-mails and I think there’ll be a big turnout.”
Abutters and area residents of the Tuttle Hill area in Antrim rallied against the proposal of a temporary meteorological (met) tower at the Zoning Board of Adjustment (ZBA) meeting on Tuesday. The tower would collect wind and weather information to assess whether wind turbines would be practical in the area. Chairman John Kendall, faced with a growing amount of information for board members to consider for a height variance, continued the meeting to Sept. 15.

As Turkey seeks to capitalize on green energy projects, those looking to build in the wind-energy sector face several environmental and procedural hurdles. Environmentalists and community-based organizations at times have radically different opinions from renewable energy advocates. ...With wind still in its infancy, the jury is still out on whether it is worth the money, and worth all the asphalt.
The wreck blocked U.S. Highway 52 and cut off access to the bridge from U.S. Highway 20 for more than two hours. It was cleared by late morning.

An official with Acciona, a global energy company, confirmed that it has decided not to develop the EcoMagnolia project.
"That's a case where I think ... it was not an adequate wind resource for us to commit our full development for the project area," said Chip Readling.
Acciona Energy's fight in court to defend the development of its $175 million wind farm near Mount Gambier has been adjourned into the new year to allow for medical evidence submissions.

Acciona reduces turbine numbers; Updated plans have 53 windmills, not 96

St. Lawrence Wind Farm developer Acciona has shrunk its proposal from 96 turbines to 53.
Acciona showed off the new maps for the wind power development at a public forum at the village fire hall Thursday afternoon and evening.
Project manager Pete Zedick said the winnowing was a result of the environmental studies and feedback from its draft environmental impact statements.
"We've done a lot of work to comply with the requirements of the town and take environmental and land constraints into account," he said.

In a May 14 letter, the two disputed the background noise levels that Mr. Hessler assumed through his regression analysis. Mr. Elliot and Mr. Tocci had measurements that averaged five decibels below the levels Mr. Hessler predicted ...If ambient noise levels have been overstated in the impact statement, it will allow higher levels of noise from turbines.

Acciona to introduce concrete towers for wind turbines
August 18, 2011 by David DeWitte in The Gazette
August 18, 2011 by David DeWitte in The Gazette
Iindustry publication Recharge in May reported on the height advantage of the 120-meter all-concrete towers Acciona plans to offer. It said the higher tower height and an enormous 116-meter rotor would extend the reach of Acciona's new turbine.
Monday marked the second major round of layoffs at the West Branch facility in its six-year history. In 2009, Acciona laid off 58 employees, which was a third of its West Branch workforce. At the time, company officials called it a "short-term issue" due to the sluggish economy, but most or all of those positions never came back.
After discussions with leadership people, community members and landowners, the company decided the only way to resolve the dispute with the neighbours was to purchase and re-market their homes.
