Britain's booming wind farm industry is grinding to a halt because a lucrative tax break in America is fuelling massive demand for new wind installations across the Atlantic.

Hundreds of generator turbines for units that were destined for the UK have been diverted because European manufacturers want to take advantage of the latest Production Tax Credits in America.
The British Wind Energy Association said: 'These credits are quite rare. When they are around, manufacturers want to take advantage of them. Hence turbines are heading for America now instead of Europe.
'It means that the boom in wind farms in the UK will pause for the next 18 months.
