Second wind farm proposed
ALEDO - Wind energy is getting more attention in Mercer County. The issue was a topic of discussion at this week's regular Mercer County Board meeting. A Chicago area company is proposing a wind farm in the northern end of the county.

"In this county we are currently leasing land to site up to 100 wind turbines to start construction as early as 2007," said Michael Arndt of Invenergy.
Test towers for the project are being placed between Reynolds and Preemption. When completed, the wind farm would sell the power generated to local utilities.
Each wind turbine would take up to one-third to one-half an acre out of production after construction for local farmers participating in the project.
How the turbines will be taxed in Mercer County has still yet to be determined.
