Hornellsville board members we spoke with in the past 24 hours say that unlike elected officials in Howard, Hornby and Hartsville, they have not entered into contracts with wind energy companies--the same companies that must get the approval of these same board members before they can operate. A review of records reveals that if the giant wind turbines ever become a reality in our area, it will be town officials who benefit most. Here are the very interesting results of a study on energy companies and town officials.
HARTSVILLE:While only 2% of the residents have signed up for wind turbines, 25% of the the town officials will reap financial benefit from leasing their land to energy companies.
HORNBY:About 1.5% of the residents will have turbines but 40% of the town officials are on board to make money. HOWARD is the worst. While 2% of the citizens will have the turbines, 60% of the town officials are set to make money.
The study of the area communities followed an expose on Channel 2, Buffalo, where it was learned that Sheldon town officials and their families will make millions of dollars from the turbines while 98% of the residents are not involved in the program.
One opponent of the intrusive wind turbines says that "if this doesn't wake up citizens to what is going on, nothing will."
