The 280ft high structure, which was loaded on to a barge, dwarfed a tug pulling it from Invergordon to the Beatrice oil field, 12 miles offshore.
The turbine, which has blades 208ft long, will test the feasibility of a deep-water wind farm. If successful, a 200-turbine wind farm will be created which could generate enough energy to power Aberdeen.
