Wind farm troubles small town residents
The people of Te Anga and Marakopa happily meet the cost of travelling long distances from their isolated settlements for shopping, entertainment and medical attention.

It's the price they pay to live in a peaceful, unspoilt district.
But the proposed establishment of a 22-turbine wind farm on Taumatatotara Rd by Ventus Energy could change all that, and it is polarising the community.
Those who stand to benefit financially – Taharoa C shareholders and wind farm landowners – support the project, while those who fear they will pay for it through a spoiled environment, greater noise, reduced road safety and inconvenience, oppose it.
