A larger than normal group of people attended Monday night's Egg Harbor Town Board meeting to talk about wind turbines used to generate electricity.
The catalyst for the discussion was the Feb. 25 installation of a turbine behind the Feathered Star Bed and Breakfast on Wisconsin 42 north of Carlsville.
Saundra Phlubna, who owns and operates the business, said she hopes the turbine will generate close to 100 percent of the bed and breakfast's electricity needs. The turbine sits atop a 110-foot tower, Phlubna said.
A neighbor to the east, Frank Maxwell, told the Town Board the turbine is 135 feet high and that it interferes with the aesthetics of Door County. Maxwell said Phlubna was "well within her rights to erect this tower. But we feel the present laws and ordinances (regulating turbine placement) are grossly insufficient."
