FALMOUTH, Mass - The Federal Aviation Administration says five wind turbines can't be built at the Massachusetts Military Reservation on Cape Cod, six days after approving them.
The FAA now says the 400-foot high turbines pose a hazard to air navigation.
The military base hosts the Coast Guard-operated Air Station Cape Cod. An FAA spokesman told the Cape Cod Times he didn't immediately know why the decision was reversed.
The National Guard filed applications to build as many as 17 wind turbines, and the FAA approved eight of them last week. Now, just three remain.
The Guard says the project could reduce or eliminate electricity costs at the base. Guard spokeswoman Lynda Wadsworth said it will keep working with the FAA to determine why the five turbine sites have been flagged.
