BROWNSVILLE - Even though gusty winds howled through the area earlier this week, the 86 wind turbines on the Forward Wind Energy Center have remained still since Tuesday.
While wind turbines are programmed to shut down when winds reach high speeds, high velocity winds had nothing to do with the interruption of power from the wind farm, said Forward Invenergy Asset Manager Laura Miner.
"The reason the plant was down was due to preventative maintenance being performed at the substation," Miner said. "This was scheduled in advance and had nothing to do with high wind speeds."
Wind turbines are expected to be back on line this weekend.
The 86-turbine wind farm in southern Fond du Lac and northern Dodge counties produces up to 129 megawatts of electricity, able to power 30,000 homes.
