OAK HARBOR -- Benton-Carroll-Salem Local School District officials briefed village leaders on tentative plans to install a 100 kilowatt wind turbine on a school property.
Village Administrator Robert Pauley said the windmill will be for educational purposes and to save on energy costs.
"It's not going happen right away," said Pauley, who added the village would have to address some zoning issues before any construction begins.
The proposed turbine, which would be built on a school site, would be paid for in part by grants, said B-C-S Treasurer Anne Arnold during a recent meeting.
"There are some grants available," said Arnold, "and we've been offered a donation."
Arnold said there are still a number of issues to work out, including zoning and placement of the wind turbine.
She said there is also a curriculum that would accompany the installation, which focuses on green energy.
The cost of the project would run about $550,000, said Arnold.
She said the turbine could be installed as early as spring.
