Council agreed Monday to 19 site-specific bylaws for turbines as the public got to see Brookfield Power Corporation's location for 22 wind turbines.
Ronald Bell and his wife Darlene aren't against the $147-million wind farm, they just don't want turbines near their air strip off County Road 14.
"Flying by these would be dangerous," Ronald Bell said Tuesday.
Turbulence is the concern. Bell said there are two turbines proposed southwest of the air strip his father built in 1948. He said the nearest one is about 950 feet or 290 metres from his flight path and about 3,000 feet (914 metres) from the air strip.
The turbines are expected to be more than 400 feet high (130.5 metres) including the blade tip.
The Bells want a 2.5-kilometre clearance off the end of the air strip and a 1.5-kilometre clearance off the sides. He said an aviation expert from North York had suggested larger clearances from wind turbines.
Deputy Mayor Katherine Gunning, who is in favour of wind turbines on land, said council didn't have the expertise to solve the turbulence issue.
She said she is concerned about the air strips but also about the delay of a deferral. Council will have more of a say in where the turbines go if it deals with the wind farm before regulations from a new provincial Green Act are put in place, she said.
Some people in the audience had concerns about health impacts. Gunning said some farmers who expected to get turbines on their land were disappointed when the number of turbines dropped from 47 to 22.
Planner Danielle Truax said the deferral will give Brookfield time to talk to the air strip owners.
No construction can occur because the bylaws are in a holding position and a number of detailed reports and plans will have to be submitted before construction could start, Truax said.
If all the site specific bylaws were passed Monday, Brookfield estimated it could be building access roads and foundations by October to December.
The turbines were expected to be erected from July to September 2010.
