Thousands of homes in east Rugby and surrounding villages will get mailshots this week outlining plans for an eight-turbine wind farm near the M1 motorway.

Your Energy Ltd is in the final stages of public consultation before its controversial wind farm blueprint goes before a council planning committee next month.

Each of the turbines would be 125-metres tall to the tip of the blade, higher than Big Ben Tower and the white cliffs of Dover - and almost as tall as Blackpool Tower.

The farm at Yelvertoft, near Rugby, would generate enough electricity to supply more than 9,000 homes in places such as Crick, Kilsby, Swinford, Catthorpe, Lilbourne and West Haddon.

The newsletter provides residents in those villages and beyond with information on the proposal, and the chance to ask questions directly to the developer using a freepost reply card.

Development manager Charlotte Healey said: "The wind farm proposal has been shaped by consultation with local residents and now the plans have been finalised we want to ensure the wider community are given another opportunity to have their say.

"Usually we hear from a small group of people who have strong opinions either for or against the proposal, and we really want to hear from all residents."

But protest group NoWAY claims three-quarters of people in Yelvertoft are against the plans.

They say wind farms are noisy, create a blot on the landscape and pose safety issues.

Daventry District Council is set to rule on the plans at a meeting in August.
