BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - State regulators have approved a new wind farm in east central North Dakota despite complaints about noise.
North Dakota's Public Service Commission concluded most of the proposed wind towers will be far enough away from homes to meet federal noise guidelines.
One of the 80 wind tower locations will have to be changed because it's too close to a rural bed and breakfast business. The owner says wind towers will hurt her business because customers expect it to be quiet.
The proposed tower was almost 2,300 feet away. The commission says a second tower that is 2,820 feet away may stay where it is.
The wind project will generate up to 120 megawatts of electricity.
Commissioner Tony Clark says it's the first time in North Dakota that a wind project has generated significant opposition.
