One of the developers of the St. Joe wind farm says the project is still alive and well, despite a major delay in the start of construction. Work on the 300 megawatt project was scheduled to begin in spring.
Pat Bowes of Bowark Energy says the main project developer, Babcock and Brown, is in financial difficulty and is in the process of selling off its North American infrastructure.
He says that process is taking longer than expected to complete, and is hampering the new company from signing a power purchase agreement with Manitoba Hydro.
Bowes says a change in ownership is expected to happen within a week or two.
Once that occurs, a lot of the road blocks delaying the power purchase agreement with Manitoba Hydro, the turbine supply agreement with Siemens and engineering procurement agreements will be removed.
Bowes says he's optimistic construction will begin in late summer.
