LIBERTYVILLE -- Aldridge Electric's new wind turbine has stopped spinning, while the company attempts to strike a compromise over what neighbors are calling excessive noise.
On Tuesday, a group of nine residents who live near the Libertyville company, 844 E. Rockland Road, obtained a restraining order signed by a judge asking Aldridge to temporarily stop the turbine from spinning.
By Wednesday, the two groups agreed to come to a compromise over the turbine's noise, said Richard Porter, an attorney representing the residents, who are collectively known as Citizens for the Protection of Libertyville.
The residents complained in their motion that the more-than-100-foot-tall turbine, which was installed in April, made a lot of noise, and it caused reflective sun glare and shadows in their yards. The noise was loud enough that neighbors' "couldn't enjoy their backyards," Porter said.
Though the restraining order expires today, Aldridge has agreed to keep the turbine off until its attorneys work out a deal with the residents. That could include moving the location of the turbine.
Aldridge representatives did not return calls seeking comment Wednesday afternoon. When the turbine was installed in April, Aldridge officials said it was large enough to power two average-sized homes.
