For every argument supporting or against local wind energy development, there's seemingly an equally strident counterpoint.
It's been no different over the past four years regarding the High Sheldon Wind Farm. The sparring included vocal debate and a failed lawsuit by some residents opposing the project.
Supporters and opponents are still at odds. Some cite the wind farm's elimination of most town taxes, while others believe the savings aren't worth the other costs, in terms of environment and visual effect.
The differing viewpoints have continued even after the project's construction.
Some residents have written local media to describe noise and other problems from the turbines, sometimes saying they believe their property rights have been violated. Attempts to contact several of these people for comment were unsuccessful.
Other residents report no problems.
Mary Kehl is High Sheldon's administrative assistant. She lives close to five turbines, though none are on her property.
She said she hasn't experienced any negative effects, and doesn't have issues with noise.
"It's not totally quiet anywhere," she said. "You talk about noise or disturbances, or whatever, but it's just too populated around here for it to be totally silent."
