Several Wisconsin residents living near wind turbines or in areas where wind farms are proposed testified against the statewide wind siting bill Tuesday at the Capitol. They cited ill health effects.
"Everyone here has talked about all about jobs and money," said Brownsville resident Gerry Meyer. "What about our health?"
From complaints about noise and moving shadows to an adverse impact on farm animals, residents said the effect of living near wind turbines is not pleasant.
Dave Vind of Arcadia said allowing the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin to lead an effort establishing statewide wind farm standards is counterintuitive.
"It would mean the Public Service Commission no longer serves the public," he said. "Problems with wind farms were not talked about in a vacuum. The PSC had to have known there were problems. Why should they create the standards when it's taken them over 10 years to start looking at the issue?
"This is a case of Madison saying, ‘I'm here from the government and I'm here to help.' Now we all know the answer to that: ‘No thanks.'"
