Villagers battling plans for a wind farm in Worcestershire are to stage a walk through the countryside they fear will be destroyed by the proposals.

Families living in the Vale of Evesham will gather tomorrow for the walk along the Wychavon Way and Blossom Trail, close to where Scottish Power Renewables is planning to build 10 turbines measuring 125m (410ft) on land owned by farmers.

"We feel the proposals will completely unbalance the flora and fauna and particularly the bird life in the region," said Erica Page, spokeswoman for Vale Villagers Against Scottish Power.

"We are trying to promote awareness of what a beautiful area this truly is and that this cannot be allowed to go ahead.

"This walk is for anyone to attend who has an interest in keeping the Wychavon Way and Blossom Trail intact."

The walk will start at 10am at Church Lench Village Hall in Church Lench and includes a one-mile and a five-mile circuit.

Ms Page said the turbines, which would create enough power to supply 9,300 UK homes, would be a blight on the local countryside.

Harvington Parish Council chairman Clive Allen said not all villagers were against the proposals.

"I think it is the way we have got to go," he added. "We have got to have energy sources from renewables.

"We can't go along with the idea of ‘not in our back yard'."
