North Dakota regulators say a proposed 2,000-megawatt wind farm will be one of the world's largest wind energy projects.
Hartland Wind Farm LLC is planning the $4 billion project in Ward, Burke and Mountrail counties in northwestern North Dakota. The company says the project will have 1,333 wind towers.
The state Public Service Commission accepted the company's letter of intent for the wind project Wednesday.
Commission President Susan Wefald says the project may not be built for several years because it will need a major new transmission line to carry the electricity.
A separate 1,000-megawatt wind project is in the works in Morton and Oliver counties in west central North Dakota.
