Logan Township Supervisors heard a request from Gamesa Energy USA Thursday evening for an overlay expansion to its proposed wind farm in the Chestnut Flats area.
The board unanimously directed the request to the township Planning Commission for review and discussion.
Chairman Frank Meloy said he would like to know who will be able to see the windmills from their homes.
Tim Vought of said he could provide photos of where the company would like to place windmills included in the overlay taken from Avalon Road.
A weather balloon could stand in to indicate the turbines' locations in the photographs.
Vought said Gamesa is not looking to disturb more than 30 acres on the mountain, and eight windmills would go up in the overlay.
"We will promise to you we will only want these eight," Vought said.
Supervisor Ed Frantino said the township would need more than a promise. He asked for a binding agreement.
"We have no reason to ask for more than 25 turbines," Vought said, talking about the 17 already planned and the eight additional for the overlay.
Frantino is concerned with what comes along with the alternative-energy source and told Vought that supervisors need to see evidence on how the company will minimize annoyances like noise.
"First and foremost, we want to protect the residents," Supervisor Joe Metzgar said. "If they don't have a problem now, we don't want to create a problem."
The next planning commission meeting is scheduled Oct. 7 for 5 p.m. in the municipal building.
