After more than six months of debate, Woodford County has officially given the green light to a wind farm in El Paso. The vote was ten to three in favor of the project, with one Woodford County Board Member abstaining.
Lawyers for the developer tell us they received approval from local townships prior to the meeting, and were confident the board would ok the plan. But citizens made a last-minute effort to stop the project. One woman even recited a poem in opposition to the project. Some residents argue Tuesday's decision may be invalid because a previous zoning board meeting allegedly violated the open meetings act.
The county has been exploring the possibility of a wind farm since 2005. It is currently one of five wind farm projects under consideration by the county.
