A proposed windmill farm project, that has been stirring up plenty of controversy, gets a "no" from Elkins city leaders.
Elkins city council met this afternoon just after 4 o'clock and passed a resolution opposing the construction of the laurel mountain wind farm. The proposed windmills would be located on a ridge between Barbour and Randolph Counties. Folks who live near the site say the project will destroy the environment, while those in favor say it will lead to economic gain in the surrounding counties.
Only one member of council voted in favor of it. Today's meeting did not include public comments.
