As expected, the Mower County Board of Commissioners agreed Tuesday to table action on three requests for an EnXco wind energy project.
The firm received the recommendation of approval for their requests a week ago from the Mower County Planning Commission.
However, many concerns were raised by residents of Pleasant Valley and Grand Meadow townships, who live near the high voltage transmission line route or the substation EnXco plans to construct.
The commission recommended the commissioners table action until the petitioner and the citizens can meet to discuss the issues.
On Tuesday, the commissioners agreed to table action until Feb. 12.
In return, the petitioner agreed to waive rights to a decision by county officials made within 60 days of the conditional use permit and other requests connected to the 137-wind tower project.
"We'd like this to be a project that everybody is happy with and one that integrates well with the community," said EnXco's project manager, Ian Krygowski.
The first meeting between the wind energy developer and citizens will be held tonight, according to Krygowski.
Also Tuesday, the commissioners held public hearings on three requests from Ulland Bros., Inc. and approved all of them.
Ulland Bros. Inc. sought renewal of CUPS to operate existing gravel pits and a new gravel pit in Lansing Township.
The latter met with the longest discussion.
When finished, the commissioners attached four extra conditions on the CUP.
