When it is operational Brazil will be the Latin American leader in the sector and add 150 megawatts to its power grid. That is 5% of the energy produced in Rio Grande do Sul; enough to power a city of 600,000.
The first wind turbines will be installed in January and the generation of electricity is scheduled to begin in the first half of 2007. The Osorio windpower park is part of the Eletrobras Incentive Program for Alternative Sources of Energy.
