June 12, 2007
by Glenn R. Schleede, Round Hill (VA)
This brief paper reviews and evaluates key aspects of energy policies and plans announced by New York State officials, and contrasts their electricity plans with those of the New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) which is responsible for the reliability of New York's electricity grid. Audio report: Grand jury probes officials' wind ties
April 10, 2008
by Jacob Resneck, North Country Public Radio
A Franklin County Grand Jury is investigating town officials' financial ties with wind farms. A town councilman in Burke, in northern Franklin County, has sued to quash a subpoena issued by the district attorney as part of the grand jury process. Jacob Resneck reports.
You’d be hard pressed to find many that are simply against wind power, but there ARE hundreds of environmental groups around the world that DO oppose commercial wind development, and are working hard to raise awareness of the many controversial issues associated with it.
The document accessible at the link below contains portions of four agreements entered into between officials of the Town of Burke, NY and two separate wind development LLCs.
The links below display a Burke, NY parcel map of those properties known to be encumbered with wind lease agreements.
This open letter to representatives of British Petroleum and Acciona/AES appeared in New York's Watertown Daily Times newspaper in response to questionable business practices by the developers seeking to build wind facilities in Cape Vincent, New York. The full letter can be accessed by clicking on the link below.
Chautauqua County Citizens for Responsible Wind Power to NYS Energy Research and Development Authority
November 11, 2004
by Chautauqua County- Citizens for Responsible Wind Power
In August 2004, Chautauqua County Citizens for Responsible Wind Power submitted a letter to the NYSERDA Board of Directors outlining our concerns about NYSERDA’s involvement with the proposed Chautauqua County wind energy project. Mr. Vincent DeIorio initially responded to us in a letter dated August 24, 2004. Mr. Peter Keane then provided a supplemental response in his September 29, 2004 letter. We find that both of these letters do not address the core issues outlined in our August 2004 letter. The following summarizes our concerns in context of the responses provided by NYSERDA to date:

Wind power is good for the environment, right?
On a small scale, yes. However on a commercial level, wind generated electricity cannot be stored, creating factors that negate most of the environmental benefits. Environmentalists around the world are now recognizing that wind development is often more harmful than it is beneficial.
