NERC Long-term reliability assessment (2007-2016)
September, 2007
by North American Electric Reliability Corporation
North American Electric Reliability Corporation released this assessment of the reliability and adequacy of the bulk power system in North America for the next ten years.
In July 2007, the New Hampshire Site Evaluation Committee (SEC) permitted, with conditions, the Lempster Wind LLC project owned by Iberdrola. The project will consist of twelve 2 MW Gamesa turbines along five miles of access roads. Iberdrola is now shopping around its neighbor agreement to non-participating landowners asking them to waive noise protections the SEC conditioned in the permit, among other protections. Iberdrola's agreement can be downloaded from the link below.

Glenn Schleede has updated his 2006 white paper which discuses whether wind energy will reduce US reliance on oil. One of the claims often made by wind energy advocates is that greater use of wind energy for electricity generation will reduce US dependence on oil, including oil imports. In fact, adding more wind turbines will have no significant impact on US oil consumption. This update, based on the latest data from the US Energy Information Agency explains why the reduced oil use claim is false.
