Spurred by federal and state legislation which create artificial demand for renewable energy projects - and provide tremendous financial subsidies, developers now are seeking to build industrial wind plants on public lands! We must act now to protect our mountain ridges from this incompatible and harmful threat. The rural, mountain legacy we leave our children will depend on a loud and effective response. The two industrial wind plant sites desired by a wind energy developer named US Wind Force are being proposed for State Forest lands along Backbone and Meadow Mountains. The projects will involve at least 100 gigantic wind turbines, and would permanently impact 1,300 acres along 15 continuous miles of forested ridgetops. The 400-ft wind turbines would be visible from 44% of Garrett County.
