The 45-day comment period began May 30, when the MMS announced plans to develop the impact statement via a Federal Register notice. The agency received authority over the proposed 130-turbine project in Nantucket Sound as part of the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
The MMS will review comments for a draft impact statement, which is scheduled to be published this winter and followed by public hearings. The agency plans to issue a final statement in the fall of 2007 and make a decision on the Cape Wind project in December 2007 or January 2008.
Comments can be sent through the agency's Web site, www.mms.gov, or through the mail at Minerals Management Service, 381 Elden St., MS 4042, Herndon, VA 20164.
