CONCORD, N.H. -- A committee of officials from New Hampshire state agencies meets today to discuss a wind farm proposal in Lempster.
The towns of Lempster and neighboring Washington petitioned the state to convene the committee to review plans by Pennsylvania-based Community Energy Incorporated to put up a dozen turbines on a private ridge line on Lempster Mountain.
The committee tonight will consider whether to review the project, a first step in a process that could take up to a year or more.
Lempster has no zoning and there are concerns that the small town lacks the resources to regulate an energy project.
Opponents are worried the wind farm will create noise and other environmental problems. Project manager Jeff Keeler says the project will provide clean energy to ten-thousand homes.
