Entegrity Wind Systems Inc., a wind turbine manufacturer that based some of its operations in Boulder, has gone bankrupt after failing to develop a plan to tackle millions of dollars of debt.

The business was declared bankrupt pursuant to the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act of Canada, where it was incorporated, according to a document posted to the front door of Entegrity's locked offices at 4855 Riverbend Road, Suite 100. At one point in time, about 20 employees, including the company's chief executive officer, worked at the Boulder office.

New Brunswick-based A.C. Poirier & Associates Inc. will act as the receiver and manager of Entegrity's properties, assets and undertakings, according to the document.

"We hope that the business of (Entegrity) can continue on in some form," said Robert Powell, vice president at A.C. Poirier.

However, he added, it's too early to speculate about the future of the business and his firm's first tasks are to satisfy the company's obligations.

Entegrity owes more than $3 million to the Toronto-based Mercantile Finance Services, according to Canadian court records, and more than $6 million to other institutions, according to reports from Canadian news agencies.

CBC News also reported that Entegrity's losses were expected to deepen because of a manufacturing problem with some of the turbines.

The Oct. 16 bankruptcy came one day after Canadian Judge Wayne D. Cheverie denied a second extension for Entegrity to come up with a financial plan.

Cheverie noted several factors in his decision, including: a lack of effort made by Entegrity officials to secure a $350,000 loan from Prince Edward Island Business Development Inc.; not identifying any potential investors; a "drastically reduced" work force; and allegations of a breach of contract from one of its customers.

"Not only does Entegrity lack any new investors for its venture, it has suffered substantial losses which have culminated in its insolvency," Cheverie wrote in the decision.

Entegrity's losses approached $6.5 million in 2008 and lost an additional $1.9 million during the first three months of 2009, he said.

Pamela Williams, Entegrity's attorney, could not be reached for comment.
