MONTPELIER - A renewable energy bill has cleared one House committee, but is drawing questions about whether it's too generous toward wind and solar power developers.
The bill sets up a "standard offer" list of prices utilities would be required to pay for solar, wind, biomass and other forms of renewable energy.
Members of the House Ways and Means Committee are questioning how it will work in conjunction with a series of tax credits designed to encourage solar power installations.
David O'Brien, commissioner of the Department of Public Service, also has questions about the bill. He worries that it could end up having low- and moderate-income Vermont ratepayers subsidizing the alternative energy investments of entrepreneurs.
