According to the police, due to the heavy smoke, complete closure of the adjacent A 31 was necessary from around 11:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m.
The site was handed over to the facility operator at 6 a.m. Several fire departments, the Cobra extinguishing system from Loga, the hazardous goods train, an EWE employee and a vehicle from the Meyer Werft factory fire department were in working to bring the fire under control, explained a press spokesman for the Leer district fire department. There was no danger to the public, and no one was injured.
According to a preliminary estimate, the property damage is estimated at around 500,000 euros, according to the police.
